Education and Scholarship Programs

Scholarship & Grants Program

Scholarships and grants for continuing and advanced education is part of the Foundation’s core programs. Since 2003, the Niyom Pattamasaevi Foundation has granted numerous high school and university scholarships yearly to students who demonstrate academic excellence and strong, socially responsible leadership skills. Each year, top three graduates from Assumption College Lampang are awarded scholarships to attend a university in Thailand. The Foundation also awards two scholarships per year to attend Thammasat University.

Library NET Reading Program

The Library NET Reading Program encourages reading, writing, listening and storytelling among children. A roaming van, equipped with a moveable library of books and magazines, visits 20 schools located outside Lampang township on a monthly basis throughout the year. In addition to bringing new books, our team engages with the children through activities that promote reading, writing and storytelling as a productive and enjoyable pastime. Our team also encourages children to discuss the books among their peers and to speak and socialise in a group setting.

Science Laboratories

Since 2006, the Foundation has been active in constructing and updating science facilities at Assumption College Lampang. The laboratories are designed and equipped to serve as a multi-purpose physics, chemistry and biology labs. The Foundation has ongoing programs to install new science laboratories in the district’s high schools and middle schools. We provide opportunities for teachers from Assumption College and Mahidol Wittiyanusorn School to develop and enhance their skills through cooperative learning programs.

Livelihood and Life Skills

Most communities in Lampang still rely on income from farming. Our education program include a livelihood and life skills. Our programs combine academic knowledge and cultural knowledge to demonstrate the importance of both in creating sustainable livelihoods and communities.

Two pilot projects — The Bank Project and the Goat Farm Project — demonstrate our focus on promoting livelihood and life skills. In 2015, the Foundation began a pilot program to teach school-age children money management and basic banking skills. The Foundation opened bank accounts for children in 20 schools, donating an initial deposit of 50 Baht for each student. The pilot program is designed to encourage youth to learn to manage their earnings and build a savings program. Similarly, in 2015, we began a farm project to teach school-aged children how to care and feed farm animals, raise livestock and cultivate a home garden.

Baan Boriboon Performing Arts Centre

Culture endures only when it is celebrated, performed and enacted, and Baan Boriboon has been artfully restored to provide a stage and venue for the performing arts in the community. When the Niyom Pattamasaevi Foundation acquired Baan Boriboon, it was structurally compromised. one of Lampang town’s oldest buildings with an incredible story that sheds light on Lampang town’s own history. The Foundation enlisted the help of historians, anthropologist and cultural architects to renovate and resurrect the building to its original integrity. The house now serves as a teaching, exhibition and performance venue for the cultural arts.

Workshops for Youth

Heritage Conservation

Heritage Conservation

Lampang exhibits a staggering range of architectural styles and boasts numerous heritage building and temples unique the town. Many are in a state of disrepair and/or unused. The Pattamasaevi Foundation is committed to exploring opportunities and undertaking projects that restore historic buildings to their architectural and aesthetic integrity and make them available for communal use.

The seat of the ancient Lanna Kingdom, Lampang has long been a cultural crossroads. The ancient kingdoms and religions of central Thailand, Burma, India, Khmer, Laos and China have all left their mark on the culture and cuisine of Lampang. In the mid 1800s, Lampang was the capital of the teak trade, hosting colonial British teak companies and teak barons from Myanmar and beyond. The imprint of these diverse cultures is evident in the architectural styles seen throughout the town – from private homes and municipal buildings to temples and places of worship. With the decline of the teak trade and modern commerce shifting to nearby Lamphun and Chiang Mai, many of Lampang’s historic buildings have been either underused or not used at all.

To date, the Foundation has successfully restored the Lampang Art Center, a traditional Lanna style house, and Baan Boriboon, an original Burmese-style bungalow, were dutifully restored and repurposed each to serve the community.

The Foundation has underwritten the renovation of learning and gathering spaces at Wat Tama’O and Chetawan Monastery, among Lampang oldest and most architecturally and culturally important landmarks.

In Bangkok, the Foundation restored historic BP House, which now serves as the central offices for Montara Hospitality Group.
For additional information on restoration of each building, please contact us at: admin@pattamasaevi.org.
